Verified Basics covers email, phone, and identity checks. VerifyPlus reports the background-check pass/fail status. Verification is factual evidence and does not change matching order.

Verification Types
Email Verification
Verified BasicsRequiredVerify your email address to confirm you have access to it. This happens automatically when you create your account.
How to verify: Click the verification link sent to your email when you sign up.
Phone Verification
Verified BasicsRequiredVerify your phone number so hosts and sitters can contact you if needed. We'll send a code via SMS.
How to verify: Go to Settings > Contact and add your phone number. Enter the verification code sent to your phone.
ID Verification
Verified BasicsRequiredRequired before applying to a sit (including as a co-sitter) or publishing a host listing. You can sign up, browse, and draft your profile first. Stripe checks your government-issued photo ID and matching selfie; documents are not shared with other members.
How to verify: Go to Settings > Verification and click 'Verify' next to Identity. Follow the prompts to upload your ID and take a selfie.
Background Check
VerifyPlusOptionalAvailable only to US-resident sitters. Optional unless a US sit requires it; international sits cannot require this check.
How to verify: Go to Settings > Verification and click 'Get Background Checked'. Review the current price and pay and complete the form through Certn.
References
Profile evidenceOptionalRequest references from people who can vouch for your character and pet care abilities. References are visible factual evidence.
How to verify: Go to Settings > Verification and scroll to References. Enter the name and email of your reference, and we'll send them a request.
Background Check Details
Our background checks are conducted through Certn, a trusted third-party verification service. The check includes:
- US national criminal database search
- SSN trace and address history
- Sex offender registry check

Is my information secure?
Yes. All verification data is encrypted and handled securely. We use trusted third-party services for ID verification and background checks. Your sensitive documents are not stored on our servers.
What if my verification fails?
If your ID verification fails, you can retry the process. Common issues include poor photo quality or expired documents. If problems persist, contact our support team for assistance.
Do verifications expire?
Background checks are valid for two years. ID verification is separate; you may be asked to re-verify when needed.
